Noble Fir is native to the mountains of western Washington and northern Oregon where it typically grows in middle elevations. Mature trees may reach 200 feet in height in their native habitat. The stiff needles are bluish-green. Young needles are twisted near the twig. When mature, the trees bear large, erect cones at the tops of the trees; these disintegrate in place. The bark of young trees is gray, while mature trees have gray-to-maroon, somewhat plated bark. The trunks are very straight, the crown of stiff branches somewhat "antler-like" in appearance.

Grown as Christmas trees, this species is perhaps the most beautiful of the Northwest's "true" firs.

These trees were grown from seed collected in the western Cascades and are four years old.
