Western Redbud is a native species to the Southwestern states where it may reach 15-20 feet in height. Distinctive for its flowers, Redbud also has beautiful light green rounded leaves, 3-to-4 inches in length and borne on two-inch stems; they are coppery when first opened. The shrubs are rounded but somewhat open in appearance, with the main stems becoming woody with age. They may be pruned to keep a rounded shape, if desired.

Small clusters of pea-like, rosy pink flowers cover a blooming shrub, and the effect is spectacular, brightening the road side and garden alike. The bark is thin, somewhat scaly and brownish in color. The fruits are four-inch pods.

Redbud is tolerant of a variety of conditions and soils but prefers well-drained soil and sunlight. It should not be over-watered.

These shrubs were grown from seeds and are three years old.
