Port Orford Cedar is a native tree of the coastal regions of northern California and southwestern Oregon. It is found at higher elevations as well, typically in wet environments. In its native habitat, trees may reach over 150 feet in height.

The leaves are scale-like, blue-green in color, with whitish markings on the undersides, and somewhat flattened in appearance. Round seed cones are small, greenish when young and maturing to brown. The reddish-brown bark is fibrous, configured in long strips.

Not a cedar, but rather a member of the cypress family, Port Orford Cedar is a parent tree from a number of cultivars. It has been threatened in the wild with a fungus, and many trees have been lost. The wood is fragrant, rot resistant, and strong.

With a medium growth rate, this cypress is tolerant of shade. It maintains a columnar form when young and is quite lovely with its flattened sprays and regular form. It is an excellent conifer for small-to-large landscapes.

These trees are grown from purchased seedlings.
