Indian Plum or Osoberry is a native deciduous shrub of the west coast states and British Columbia. An understory shrub of typically moist sites, it is perhaps most notable for its early blooming period. This is the shrub that lights the forest with small white flowers. Not long after the light green leaves unfold, announcing that spring has come.

The narrow leaves may be three inches long, and the half-inch flowers are borne in hanging racemes, making them very visible at the branch tips. The fruit is dark purple, a half-inch long, and palatable to animals but not particularly tasty.

With multiple stems up to twelve feet tall (but often less), this rose family member is an easy-care garden plant and is particularly well-suited for shady or partially shady sites.

These plants are grown from cuttings.
