Mock Orange is a native shrub, in the Northwest most commonly found east of the Cascades. It is a western species, with a range extending from California to British Columbia. A member of the Hydrangea family, this is a deciduous shrub with pointed, pale-green leaves, multiple woody stems, and wonderfully fragrant large white blossoms. The plants may reach nine feet in height and are showiest as a large-scale landscaping shrub. However, individual shrubs can be confined to the smaller garden with pruning.
Mock Orange blooms in late spring; the shrubs may be covered with the large white blooms. The fragrant blooms have four petals and many yellow stamens.
Robust, mock-orange is carefree. It prefers sunny locations for the best flowers but will also grow in more shaded conditions.
