Self-heal is a small perennial plant with spike-like stalks of purple flowers borne on upright stems. There are native self-heal species; however, ours are a cultivar, derived from the Eurasian native.

The plants are low-growing, with basal leaves that are oval, dark green, and three-to-four inches long. The leaves may remain through the winter. Self-heal may be grown in sun or partial shade. Plants may spread to form mat-like displays.

Individual flowers are small, but taken together compose the showy flower clusters.

These plants are grown from seed.
